Norgren IVAC (Integrated Valve and Actuator Control IVAC) is a very special product line that is primarily characterized by a light-weight construction. That is valve actuators that work with their valves integrated and use switches with the full magnetic control to provide highly precise actuator control.
This type of equipment is especially valuable when it comes to engineering of air pumping and gas flowing systems requiring low weight of equipment and energy-efficient solutions at once. This type of pneumatic equipment is also actively integrated into quite a standard system solution in order to reduce electricity consumption. Air valves, actuators and cylinders manufactured under the trademark Norgren are energy-efficient lowering the consumption down to 50%.
Over the years, the concept of pneumatic control of different types of machines has remained unchanged. To create pneumatic systems use a combination of valves or valve terminals, cylinders, throttles, sensors, various connectors and accessories. But now there is a more efficient solution. In April 2011, at the Hannover Fair, NORGREN presented its new product – cylinders of the IVAC series. This name appeared due to the design features of the cylinders, in which the principle of “Integrated Valve & Actuator Control” is applied.
Norgren IVAC Cylinder is light, reliable, with a built-in pneumatic control valve, with the possibility of damping, speed control and position indication. It is designed in accordance with ISO/VDMA, which allows it to be used as an alternative to traditional pneumatic cylinders. The use of this pneumatic cylinder allows you to reduce energy consumption by up to 50% compared to standard versions.
IVAC is an ISO VDMA actuator with integral valves, throttles, dampers and sensors. It only needs one pneumatic and one electrical connection.
What are the benefits of using IVAC?
- Efficient energy consumption. Since there are no separate valves, there is no air flow in the pipes between the valve and the actuator. At the same time, the reduction in air consumption compared to the traditional version can reach 40%.
- Reduced installation time and cost. To connect an IVAC to a system, you connect it to the air line once, providing air to each device. There is no need to mount valves or valve terminals on the machine frame or in a cabinet, there are no many connecting pipes between valves and cylinders.
- Accelerating the response of the system to the control action. Since the valve is integrated into the cylinder, the response time from receiving an electrical signal to starting movement is much faster than in a conventional pneumatic system, which requires additional time to fill the pipeline between the valve and the cylinder with air.
- Simplified product selection and ordering. With IVAC, only 3 components are required. Also, there is no need to choose the type of distributor, calculate the required air flow, select fittings, tubes. All this has already been done. Improved stem speed control. Chokes built into the drive end cap provide better speed control. This solution significantly reduces the influence of the effect of air elasticity.
- There is no need for mechanical modification of an existing structure. IVAC fully complies with ISO VDMA dimensions. Therefore, it easily fits into the existing development, but at the same time significantly improves the design of the equipment.
- Multipole or Fieldbus connection. In one version, it is connected to the solenoids and to the outputs of the sensors, through which a hardware connection is made to the input / output modules of the control system. In another version, IVAC is connected to the fieldbus regardless of which network protocol is used. Here IVAC is a remote I/O station. The supervisor controller only needs to have a network module, and discrete I/O modules may be completely absent.
- Reduced car wash time. Machines for the food industry are periodically washed. If you use Cleanline IVAC, this procedure is simplified, since you need to clean the cylinder and only one of its pipelines and cable.
- Service simplification. In a normal system, if a problem occurs during operation, you need to diagnose a malfunction in all its components. With IVAC, you can simply replace a working node to quickly get a working system, and you can already diagnose a malfunction offline.
